Experience the Tranquility and Beauty of Mexico’s Most Beautiful Beach– Balandra

Ok, let’s face it, the real reason you visit La Paz is to come to this beach, enough said! In all seriousness, Balandra beach is the crème de la crème and it was voted Mexico’s most beautiful beautiful beach for a reason! If you’re seeking tranquility, Balandra Beach is a must-visit spot. This stunning beach is surrounded by mangroves, calm crystal-clear waters, and soft white sand perfect for sunbathing.

Balandra Beach is not only an excellent spot for relaxing but it’s also great for water activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding. The water is shallow, making it safe for beginners to try these activities. Moreover, the beach is family-friendly as there are no strong waves or currents, which makes it a good spot to chill with your family.

You can also hike to the top of the rocky hills that encircle the beach and witness breathtaking views of the bay.

It’s important to note that Balandra beach is a nature preserve which means the city limits the daily entrance to the beach. The city allows entrance in two time slots: 8am – 12pm and then from 1-5pm. There is a maximum of 450 visitors per allowed per time phase.

When we visited we had to get there extremely early to ensure we got in for the first time phase at 5am and there was already a massive line up of cars! Granted this was a couple years ago now when the city was also practicing stricter covid precautions. However, make sure to check the Beach’s official website on entrance information to be safe.

There is also no amenities at Balandra beach. They only have porta-potties and charge a small fee to use. Make sure to also pack some food and drinks with you as there are no restaurants here.

After a peaceful day at Balandra Beach, you can still have the chance to watch the sunset on the Malecon and enjoy some delicious seafood dishes in the nearby restaurants.

If you’re a nature enthusiast, make sure to include Balandra Beach on your itinerary. It’s a hidden gem that you wouldn’t want to miss!

For those seeking an adventure-filled day in La Paz, look no further than Mogote. This unique sand dune offers visitors the chance to partake in the thrilling activity of sand boarding. Strap on your boots and hop on a board as you glide down the steep slopes, feeling the rush of adrenaline with each descent.

We booked a guided tour with On Board Baja and they were awesome! We met at their office in town and they drove us out to the dunes with the boards and will also give you some instruction if needed!

But the excitement doesn’t end there. As you make your way up the dunes, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. From the top, you can see the sparkling waters of the Sea of Cortez and the jagged mountains that frame the horizon.

Get your heart racing with sand boarding at Mogote, and then cool off with a dip alongside whale sharks. La Paz offers adventure and excitement for those willing to seek it out.

Swim with Gentle Giants: Whale Sharks

After a morning of sandboarding and exploring the city of La Paz, it’s time to head over to the docks for an unforgettable experience. Swimming with whale sharks is a must-do activity for anyone visiting this part of Mexico. These gentle giants can reach up to 40 feet in length, but don’t worry, they’re harmless to humans.

Keep in mind the whale sharks are only around specific times of the year, usually from October – April, with best month typically being November.

After your encounter with the whale sharks, it’s time to witness the majestic sunset at the Caves of Cerro de La Calavera. The caves provide the perfect vantage point for watching the sun dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the sea. It’s the perfect way to end a day of adventure and excitement in La Paz.,

Witness an Epic Sunset at the Caves of Cerro de La Calavera

After an exhilarating experience swimming with whale sharks, make your way to the Caves of Cerro de La Calavera to witness a breathtaking sunset. This hidden gem is a secret known only to the locals and a few adventurous tourists. Once you reach the caves, you’ll be greeted by a stunning panoramic view of the sea. The sunset here is unlike any other, featuring vibrant hues of orange, red, and pink that paint the sky in a mesmerizing spectacle. As the sun descends, the sky transforms into a canvas of colors that reflect off the water, creating a magical atmosphere. It’s one of those moments that will leave you in awe and at peace with the world around you.

As the sun sets, you may want to head to the Museo de Arte or Nuestra Señora Cathedral to indulge in local art and culture.,

Indulge in Art and Culture at the Museo de Arte and Nuestra Señora Cathedral

After a day of adventure and outdoor activities, take a break and immerse yourself in the art and culture of La Paz. The Museo de Arte is home to a vast collection of contemporary and traditional Mexican art, including paintings, sculptures, and installations. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions that showcase the works of local and international artists. You can spend hours exploring the galleries and getting lost in the beauty and creativity of the pieces on display.

If you’re interested in history and architecture, Nuestra Señora Cathedral is another must-visit attraction. This stunning building dates back to the 19th century and boasts an impressive facade that blends Gothic and neoclassical styles. Inside, you’ll find a beautifully decorated altar and intricate stained glass windows. The cathedral is the perfect place to reflect and admire the craftsmanship of the past.

After your cultural indulgence, take a stroll along the Malecon and soak in the mesmerizing views of the ocean. The Malecon is a lively promenade that stretches for several kilometers, offering ample opportunities for people-watching and sightseeing. You can also find shops, cafes, and restaurants along the way, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely evening stroll.

Take a Stroll Along the Malecon and Soak in Ocean Views

After exploring the historical landmarks of La Paz, it’s time to experience the beauty of the city’s coastal setting. The Malecon is a popular spot for both tourists and locals, offering stunning views of the Sea of Cortez. As you walk along the promenade, take in the sights and sounds of the bustling city center, dotted with shops and restaurants. The ocean breeze and sunsets are particularly enchanting from this vantage point, making it the perfect spot for a romantic evening stroll.

And if you’re looking for a bit more adventure, La Paz is also a gateway to the nearby Isla Espíritu Santo. There are many tour operators that can take you on a day trip to this uninhabited island, where you can kayak, snorkel, and watch sea lions play in the crystal-clear waters. It’s a chance to escape the crowds and experience the natural beauty of Baja California Sur. So whether you’re in the mood for a leisurely stroll or an active adventure, La Paz has something for everyone.,

Embark on a Day Tour of the Enchanting Isla Espíritu Santo

If you’re seeking a break from city life, Isla Espíritu Santo is an excellent choice. The uninhabited island is located just a short boat ride away from La Paz and is home to over 900 species of marine life, making it a popular destination for both snorkelers and divers. It’s not uncommon to spot playful sea lions or schools of colorful fish as you explore the island’s waters.

One of the best ways to experience the island is by booking a day tour with a local operator. Most tours include transportation to and from your hotel, a boat ride to the island, snorkeling equipment, and lunch. Snorkeling excursions are popular, as the island is surrounded by coral reefs teeming with sea life. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a whale or a pod of dolphins on your way to or from the island.

I used On Board Baja, the same guys I went sand boarding with and we had an amazing time!

When you step foot on Isla Espíritu Santo, you’ll feel as though you’ve entered a different world. The island is largely untouched, with cactus groves and white sand beaches stretching out before you. Hiking trails wind through the landscape, offering views of the sea and the desert beyond. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can explore the island’s caves and rock formations.
